AT PASCUCCI WITH E SENIOR

27/01/2012

Dear all,

Here’s the activity of the week, this time with Esen. On Friday afternoon, some of the students from this class went out to Pascucci café with Mrs Efi to have a drink.

The aim of this activity was to practice on using appropriate language to order a drink, ask for information, make a suggestion, ask for the bill and so on, among other objectives such as being polite, refusing and accepting, bargaining in a game, socializing.

The students and their teacher communicated only in English, had a juice of their preference, played a board game called PICTIONARY, had a photo or two to capture the moment and had a discussion on various topics e.g concerning their school trips. There were some very funny moments, especially while playing the board game PICTIONARY, since students had to draw pictures in different ways.

There were some absentees in this activity and we thought of them at times but we do hope that we’ll be able to do something else all together very soon. The students who were present though were the following: The ‘super boy and gentleman’ of the team Mr Jim Doussias, the lovely girls Miss Nikoleta Tsouvaltzidi, Miss Ifigenia Koutouki, Miss Theodora Samada, Miss Aggeliki Tsakalou and their teacher Mrs Efi. Here are a couple of pictures for you all to look at.

We did enjoy our afternoon out because we shared some time together speaking in English without books & homework and we felt great when we realized that it’s great to speak another language when we have fun, don’t you agree so? . Shall we repeat it soon then? I loved it!

Warm regards,
Mrs Efi

AN ACTIVITY WITH A,B & C SENIOR

On Friday 20th January, Mrs Efi and the students from A, B& C senior had a warm cup of tea & a piece of cake at the premises of our school. Most students attended the event and were most excited about finding the coin in the Xmas cake, as well as using English to communicate throughout the activity. They all spoke English for the whole hour and this was rather impressive! Even some shy students would reproduce the dialogues in order to participate!

Part of the activity was devoted to story-telling and as a follow-up activity, the students were asked some comprehension questions. Apart from that, they used proper English to ask for some tea and a piece of cake, they used related language to express likes and dislikes ( for instance, whether they prefer sugar or honey etc ), they told jokes, they took some photos and videos, they teased each other and above all, they built on a positive rapport and their self-esteem in an English speaking environment! It was more than great!

And as you can see for yourself in the photos, George Papaspyros was the one to get the coin in his piece of cake and of course, he got the money and the chocolate ! His classmates were not very happy about that, though... Hi,hi,hi

ON A VISIT TO THE SUPERMARKET

On Friday 13th January the Junior class paid a visit to the supermarket nearby our school for educational purposes. The aim of this activity was to familiarize the students with certain groups of products in a real-life situation in which they had to identify several items, name them in English and reflect on their use.

Initially, the students were pre-taught a list of shopping products under the categories of drinks, pastry, fruits, vegetables, sweets and other. They were presented an apple-pie to categorize the products. They were explained the task they had to carry out during their visit to the supermarket.

In all respect, the students seemed rather enthusiastic and proud of themselves in realizing they could identify the several products as much as they enjoyed doing the activity in real context.

Well done my little darlings! I felt proud of you!!!

Polar Bears - Why are they in danger?

Polar bears are an endangered species. They live in the Arctic Ocean. Polar bears have got thick, white fur and sharp teeth. They weigh up to 680 kilos and eat fish and meat.
There are many reasons that polar bears are in danger. Firstly, Arctic people hunt them for their fur, meat and their fat. Moreover, climate change has made the ice thinner, so it is difficult for polar bears to find food.
We can help polar bears by stopping hunting and keeping the environment clean.

This project was researched and composed by C Senior.

XMAS CELEBRATION AT OUR SCHOOL

Dear students, teachers and parents,

I wish you all

A HAPPY,CREATIVE AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR, FULL OF HEALTH, JOY AND STRENGTH FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES.

Although Xmas holidays have been a busy period for everyone - you know, shopping, singing carols, baking cakes, going to church, having delicious meals and so on-, I bet we would all agree that there's no problem in getting tired this way. Am I wrong? So, here we are now heading towards the end of our holidays while wishing we had some more days to spend playing and relaxing with our family and friends.

It is my pleasure to announce to you that the Xmas celebration of our English Nursery classes was utterly a success! The little ones performed very well singing and acting in front of their parents and friends! They were all very sweet and above all, they could adapt their roles and participate in the English language excellently! If you want to take a glimpse, just visit the flickr and share your thoughts with us. We will be glad to receive some of your comments!

Best regards,
Mrs Efi
